In the year 2411 a couple uncovered some old wall paintings

A Suffolk couple living in an ancient building have found what seems to be some very old wall paintings, they had been tucked in behind a side board for centuries. Experts are baffled as to who painted them and why but they believe it could have been a show of allegiance to the king and queen of the period.
The couple , two retired authors of mainly childrens books said they were amazed and in awe when they first uncovered the paintings. ''Its strange , when we are in the room we feel as though the paintings are indeed watching over our shoulders'' said Oliver , 51. ''yes'' his wife Margaret 76 agreed ''they really do steal the attention when visitors come into our home'' .
Jolly Mc Nabb, an expert on ancient wall paintings said ''these are the best i have seen yet and i have been in the business since 2366, astonishing as well as baffling, simply magnificent'' .

I found myself idly singing & humming to myself whilst driving to work the other day. Not that unusual, except when I realised that I was singing "Wheels on the bus" (go round and round, for those not versed in that musical classic).

The year 2411 will be post the Great Polar Melting and much of Suffolk will have been designated The Greater North Sea.

And for those not educated in Waybuloo, the characters are called Deelie and Knocktock. At least, according to my 6 year old daughter, currently stood next to me noseying at what Dad is doing on the computer.

I found myself idly singing & humming to myself whilst driving to work the other day. Not that unusual, except when I realised that I was singing "Wheels on the bus" (go round and round, for those not versed in that musical classic).

And I'm afraid it never goes away... I can still be found driving along with "You never see a puffin puffing" or "I'm Dan the digger" running through my mind and I've not actually heard either of these since about 1995!

Fortunately, the childhood songs burned into the dark recesses of my brain are mostly from Jungle Book, so not only are they slightly less embarrassing to be caught humming they are really great tunes. We literally wore out a VHS tape of Jungle Book but it was such a favourite that I bought a DVD copy when it was released again.

Oddly though, I don't seem to be plagued with music recollections from TV programmes other than Thunderbirds.

A colleague was out in his car with 3 customers a little while back, and whilst driving along found himself shouting "TRACTOR!" and pointing wildly as they went past a field, causing a sudden lull in the conversation.

His 2 year old son was of course not in the car.

The late Frank Muir told a lovely story of driving gently along a quiet lane in the Kent countryside on a sunny day, with all the windows open. He saw another car - an open-top - roaring towards him, weaving erratically back and forth across the road. He tucked as tightly as he could on to the left-hand verge to allow the other car to get past him

As it drew level he saw that it was driven by a mad-looking middle-aged woman. Just as she passed his car, she yelled "PIG!" at him.

"I thought this very unfair," said Muir, "since I was the one who had driven considerately, and given her as much room as I could manage. In something of a foul mood, I drove off, rounded the next corner... and hit a pig."

I can't say I've ever done that with a car full of customers but such diversions were a common occurence in the FF household many years ago, often involving having to stop and watch for a while. Coincidentally, I've recently been sorting out some cupboards and came across the old photo shown below.

On another occasion, while watching a huge working combine harvester, the driver stopped and offered us a ride. We spent a fascinating half-hour trundling around the field and I learnt that such machines nowadays measure crop density as it is harvested and store the data along with GPS coordinates. That data is then used by the seed drilling and fertiliser application machines the following year to adjust their own operations. A small child can be a wonderful excuse for such things, including visits to the cockpit of jumbo jets in flight - though, sadly, those days are now long-gone.

An elderley man driving on a motorway receives a call from his, also, elderley wife warning him to be careful as she had just heard on the news that a madman is driving on the motorway towards oncoming traffic. Totally amazed he replies " only one ??.... there are hundreds of them !!!!!..."

I was once taking my replacement to visit some clients - one in Glasgow and one in Edinburgh in a single day trip from Stansted with a train journey from one city to the other.
Imagine his amusement when I pointed out of the window and exclaimed "Look at all those diggers!" my 3 year old daughter was in another country

Wired UK had a really interesting article last year about a US farmer (and MIT graduate) who'd pioneered GPS in agriculture adding close repeaters to increase the accuracy. He now drives his machinery into the fields and sits behind the wheel while the equipment drives itself around micro adjusting feed and seed rates based on his geo-database of crop patterns.

I'm reminded of the story about a woman who, at a rather grand dinner, was seated next to a very senior serviceman (a Rear Admiral, I think). She was listening with polite attention to what he was saying and was surprised when his conversation petered out mid-sentence. Only then did she realise that she had been carefully cutting up the meat on his plate for him.
