This article caught my eye this morning. Seems some bright sparks have decided that assignment of Conservation Area status means that officials can now make decisions retrospectively.

Feels like over-reach to me and the thin end of a potentially nasty wee wedge.

The article reports the Conservation Area was formed in 2020 but there have been similar and larger signs on the wall side 1959.

Yes, there are indeed some good 'up-sides' but...... if they then insist all our front doors have to be 'Shocking Pink' and ....

It was probably installed after 2020. There’s no mention of the area having an Article 4 Direction (removal of permitted development rights), and this is important to establish if the council has any enforcement powers, or not. Personally, I feel all CAs should have an Article 4 because what is the point of a CA by name only and the local council cannot stop a non-listed building from being double glazed and pebble dashed?

Looking at Streetview, the sign appears to have been in place since at least 2009.
The chimney stacks on the buildings that the sign is attached to were removed sometime in 2017/18 - Will the council be demanding they are reinstated ??
