Yes they are still about. Have caught 3 mice and one pygmy shrew, lovely little creature, in the loft space in last week. It is very hard to determine their route of ingress. Are there anything like smoke bombs I can let off and hopefully see coming out of any gaps in the thatch to wall areas etc? Nothing is visible if the loft is well lit and I take a look outside at night.

Oddly enough, it may be easier to see the smoke at night, in the deep dense dark, going around with a torch.
It's sad, keep catching these little immigrants. We've had none for weeks, after a run of one every couple of days. Perhaps once one has killed all those who know the area, it takes time for the incomers to find the best nesting sites.
Anyway, given how small a hole they can get through, I wish you luck in your ingress quest.
Alternatively, perhaps you could just provide them with some nice heated nest boxes in the attic so they'll leave your wiring alone. Set up a wildlife camera with internet streaming, then you have free entertainment as well.

We have a cat which is an incredible mouser but she catches them outside and brings them in to show us - then lets them go. Then she watches while we display our mouse catching prowess. Perhaps she regards herself as a trainer......Hobden said:It's a thought! Having located and plugged the last few holes with wire wool, I've not seen any sign of mice for a while now, so the traps have been put in storage.

Cable sheaths are apparently impregnated with a bitter substance nowadays to discourage rodent nibbling. Of the two cables that have succumbed in our house both were a good age. One was an alarm cable that came off a reel I'd had kicking around for best part of the 30 years. It was in my main cable run under the doorway between kitchen and dining room where there are dozens of cables of all types so I hope the mooses choice wasn't just coincidence.
They love supermarket carrier bags too. Used to be if we left any lying around they'd disappear overnight and re-appear under the floor some time later.
