Thanks to the miracle of E-planning, I can confirm that (unless it happened between the inspector's visit and the actual listing) the change doesn't seem to have consent.

Just driven past an early 19th century pub, now 'refurbished'as flats - looks like it was built last week. Stone tiles gone, sash windows gone, everything but the (sandblasted) exterior walls - gone! Oh, and the vandals had been at the Victorian Brilliant Cut glass on another building nearby, that's being left to rot.

I was just thinking on my journey home that this acquired love for historic buildings is also a bit of a curse too. A few years ago, I would have neither noticed or cared. I suppose it comes partly from knowing just how much care, craftsmanship and effort that went into making this stuff.

Bet the developers thought they were improving the building though.

Bet they claim it's conservation.

I will be posting pics soon of the developments to the Saltaire World Heritage Site, or borders thereof - certainly a listed mill that was still in business 10 years ago when I moved here.

Not sure if it is a carpark or nuclear power station at the moment, but it is big, square and grey. Maybe it will be lovely when it's finished? We'll see

I think it is right on the edge, and amongst some really hideous 50s, 60s, and 70s buildings.

Maybe it will be lovely, but for some reason I have become cynical about these projects....

It doesn't look promising so far - perhaps it is a wrapper to keep the finished addition as a surprise?

Certainly won't be as damaging as the M650 motorway - right through part of the village and the park (proposed many years ago, abandoned and then partly built at great cost, and resulting in a collosal, traffic congestion causing c*ck-up)

So far there's too much glass... not the finest of re-uses.


I'm cynical also.

I'm looking out for more IoE pics where the listing and the pic are not the same.

I know that in some cases LBC may have been given, but in many, as with the one above, somehow I doubt it...
