Those of you who helped me with comments about stopping an illuminated shop sign within a listed area in North Norfolk, (after the application was so carelessly discussed by the PC.) will be pleased to hear that District rejected the application.

The PC tonight, then went on to reject, without discussion,a proposal to demolish the Stationmaster's house-------- am I getting through to them, or, is their ignorance bliss------!!

Well, great about the sign - but why was there an application to demolish the stationmaster's house? Is it listed or in a conservation area? What is proposed to replace it?

Sadly, the decision is not final - that one is for the local authority. The PC is consulted, although their views are taken into account so are many other things.

Conservation area, described as 'unlisted but important house' (Conservation doc.). Demolish and create 9 affordable homes. Retain old building not feasible.

The design is stunning, the village needs housing for local people, currently locals outpriced by the second home owners. I have no problems with the proposal at all. PC did not even look at the drawings, let alone discuss the implications of providing affordable housing to keep the locals here. (Second homeowners are a fickle lot and I think the 'fashionable' area syndrome is slowly fading here). Rubbish weather this summer caused holiday lets etc to be well down on previous years. Complacency is not an option up here.

It would be great to see the building incorporated & I think at the very least PC could have approved the development with that proviso.

Suspect District will take a different view. Is there
not a 'Rural Exception' paper somewhere?

Well, there is such a thing as PPG 15 and Conservation Areas - which is designed to protect historic buildings of merit from demolition... so hopefully the local authority will vote against it?

Wider community benefit is hardly an argument here as the house can and should be retained and incorporated into any new scheme.
