For the men with lathes in their shedsTurned up a scrap of wood to give a rounded end to the bit of skirting.

And +1 for finishing the skirting at the wall and not going round the corner and cutting a mitred border around the quarry tiles.Turned up a scrap of wood to give a rounded end to the bit of skirting.

And... looks like you are going to need quite a lot of Lecol 7500 to fill the gaps in your pine parquet.I've been fitting skirting. I've come to the fireplace. Continuing skirting to the hearth will look too heavy and I'm thinking about a shorter moulding the same height as the hearth.
What has anyone else done for this sort of detail.

I think I would regard the sides of the fire opening as decoratively analogous to a wooden fire surround, and stop the skirting where it is.I've been fitting skirting. I've come to the fireplace. Hehheh... they have to be rotated in your photo editor, then saved. Just rotating them on your screen doesn't do it... how do I know that...Damn - I went to so much trouble turning the pictures upright, and then something turned them back again as I sent them!

I like the third pic, the one with the green marble(?) surround... the wallpaper, carpet, the whole bit... how a period house should look. A pox on painted walls and laminate.
What's the pot for?
On all the places I’ve done I have taken the same approach as Ivor and stopped there.I've been fitting skirting. I've come to the fireplace. Continuing skirting to the hearth will look too heavy and I'm thinking about a shorter moulding the same height as the hearth.
