Much as I love our house, I wouldn't mind this one! This is just up the road from us. It's a bit overpriced given that it's right on a busy road (but parking and large gardens etc command a premium in Witney). It's big but actually not that much bigger than our house. I love the history of it though - it belonged to the Earlys (Witney Blankets people). Lovely view from the house to the green and the church (although you'd have to look over the traffic jams which are a feature of that road in rush hour) How wonderful to have a folly in your garden - it would make a great office for me. I think I'll start doing the lottery...

For those who know Witney then really the other end of town - Church Green - is more desirable but then an equivalent house there would be another £500k probably!!!

Yes FW - Mr Early is well and truly Late Mr Early! The history of that family and influence in the town is really interesting. If you see an extra big house in Witney the chances are they owned it. There's about 3 or 4 just in our street that belonged to them - sadly all very neglected and no doubt if they ever come on the market will be turned into a huge number of flats. One, a couple of doors down from us, is being developed at the moment but at least just into 2 flats and with parking (parking is a big issue in our street). Our house was associated with the blanket industry but it was a house for the workers I expect- there's a very old large former mill/factory 2 doors down from us. When I'm sat at my computer, I like to imagine them weaving away probably in the same room 300 years ago...

Mr P - we've only been to The Three Pigeons once and that was about 4 years ago! We must try it again on your recommendation. Our favourites are The Plough (High St) and The Hollybush (Corn Street) - both of which have been revamped and under new ownership in recent years. Both are always busy - nice beer, wine and food. The House of Windsor was our local but sadly closed now - had many a good night in there including a few enjoyable garden parties: I'm sure I've mentioned this before but at one (and after many beers) Mr Juju was to be found singing old Geordie folk songs (something about 'she's a big lass, a bonny lass, and she likes a pint of beer') with the other ex-Geordies who now live in these parts including Ray Jackson from Lindisfarne. Luckily the kids weren't there to be embarrassed by their father (which, as he often reminds them, is his job).

Ooh no! I'm not recommending it! I've no idea what it's like now, but many years ago the landlord (whose name I've forgotten) was a bit of a character - widely known in Witney!

The food in those days was...ahem... unassuming.
