BBC Two’s Culture Show will also be covering the awards in its series starting in September.

There will be four annual awards for:
the best rescue or repair of a place of worship
the best rescue of an industrial building or site
the best craftsmanship employed on a heritage rescue
the best rescue of any other entry on the Heritage at Risk register.

Not sure I can enter any of those - where's the most amiable bodger award?

A worthy suggestion, Joce. However, I'm not sure that FF's masterpiece was ever on the BAR, even though it certainly deserved to be.

It's very kind of you to think of me Joce but, reading those four categories, I don't think I'd be eligible for any of them.

Penners is quite correct about our house never having been on any 'at risk' register and having seen some such buildings, I'm not sure it would have qualified. 'Dilapidated' certainly, but I think we got to it before it became seriously 'at risk' - although there were one or two specific areas that were a close call.

That just leaves the 'best craftsmanship' category and I don't think extensive roof, guttering and drainage repairs would qualify - essential though they undoubtedly are to the health of any old house (or new actually).

But the main reason for my disqualification would be that I'd have to tick the 'no publicity' box so they probably wouldn't be interested.

Modest as ever. I still think they ought to invent a new category for yours though - and it does look rather like they've narrowed the fields to such specific criteria that they've picked the winners already. But perhaps I'm too cynical.

Perhaps pandering to Lord Phantom keeps the EH bods away from getting out in the field, designating new "heritage assets"? :?

Quite so, our listing application was sent in late October! That makes 9 months of waiting for BC to get some attention. But she is coming on 4th August.
