twice now i have bought chalk to use in my plaster and twice its been lumpy , thats ok i was told the lumps will go away when you mix it.
it didnt.
so , guys , where can i buy chalk that can be used in plaster without being lumpy?
tried that , it worked ok for some of it but a lot of the lumps are quite hard.
i ran the whole bag through a sieve and 50% of it wouldnt go through , most of this will go through with some work but a lot of it will need crushing.
do i have to go through all this sieving? cant i just buy fine crushed chalk? i have tried putty and sand but i get a far better finish with the chalk.
I'm guessing that you are looking for significant quantities so my comment will probably be of little use but here goes anyway.....
Holkham sell Luslack and Chalk filler where you get a 700g tub of chalk which is very fine indeed. I have used it to stiffen linseed oil putty when it is too oily but this of course doesn't use much. Incidentally it does make a good filler when used with the Luslack
sounds like it might be worth a try although i do know there are different grades in softness of chalk, well i think there is as i have also got a bag of pea chalk that cannot be crushed to dust easily.
i have just found another two bags of this stuff that i didnt think i had so i am going to try and crush it up , so far ive been looking at wheat grinders , coffee grinders and ms robgil , none of these options are ideal chalk grinders though.
