I went to Horncastle today; it was great.
I can't remember the last time I saw so much unstripped paint, higgledy piggeldy windows and curious un-restored charm. It was actually not possible to visit all the antique shops in one day, but I did find a very sweet Edwardian piano stool for £30 and everything was very, very cheap, including beer at £1.50 a pint.
I love the antique shop with the parrot who insults you as you go round (closely monitored by a lovely ginger and white cat) and all the thousands of boxes of china standing in the rain.
I also noticed that the walls up the canal (?) did not show any signs of rising damp.
Nobody ever talks about Horncastle. Why not?
