How to age new brick

Just moved into an old Georgian House and there is some exposed internal brickwork. Most of this is old and looks great but the fireplace is new build with new brick and untidy mortar. Can anyone suggest how to 'age' the new brick to get it more in line with the rest of the house?

I didn't think that exposed internal brickwork was usually a feature of Georgian houses - are you sure that it's not just a fashion conceit left by a 'trendy' earlier owner? And new brick with untidy mortar really doesn't sound like something that was meant to be on view, whatever the period.
Any chance of some photos?

The copper in our scullery has exposed brickwork as do the walls in the outside carzie.

I agree with Moo. I reckon the Georgian homeowner would have been horrified to have exposed brickwork.

Obviosely the previous owners did not want a "georgian" interior.

I would plaster it all up and fit a nice " georgian" fire place.

Either that, or buy the biggest plasma tv you can get and hide it.

It's a Georgian barn and as I said the old walls look great.

A barn is a very different kettle of fish and of course they wouldn't have bothered to tart it up. But the fireplace is a bit of a puzzle - surely the first priority (if you're not going to plaster it in some way) would be to deal with that untidy mortar?

Would it be possible to take out the new brickwork and rebuild it with old bricks?

If it's in an old barn and exposed brickwork is acceptable, that is.
