How old might my path be?

Hiya

While we've been digging up the concrete path and earth from around our house, we've found a small amount of what looks like an old path. It's made up of flat pieces of stone (from around 4"x4" to around 10"x8") laid on their ends and packed tight together. All that's left of it is about 1 foot by 3 feet. What era might this be from? I don't think it's as old as the house (500 years) as it's far too high up in the ground. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of it yet (and it's bucketing down with rain at the moment, so I'm not about to run outside to get one!!) but I'll try to remember to get one tomorrow. Any ideas in the meantime?

Too late to get a photo...it's already met its fate under the weight of a digger's bucket! It had to go anyway but I was just curious as to what period it might have belonged to. I'd still be interested to know, if anyone can help

Now that it has disappeared, it could even be that it was Roman.

Nobody could prove otherwise, so insist that it was.

No, the Romans would have used tile or brick. Definately Neolithic.

Who cares, Middi? Oh yikes, no, that was a tad over jealous!! I *do* care, that's why I wanted to know but, in any event, it had to go. I did try to lift the stones, one by one, to reassemble them elsewhere (or even the same spot but lower down) but they just crumbled I think that's the first part of our renovation where we've had to admit that we couldn't save or re-use something that was of significant interest. A sad point but, I guess, inevitable....we can't save *everything*!!
