How old are my bricks

The brick in my chimney stack measure 10 x 5 x 2 inches. Any one know how old they might be. I have a rough idea but would like it confirmed. ( I live near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk)

Is there an online source for dating bricks?

I know that there is a book on historic bricks, but I need to make further enquiries and can't today.

You could try these sites. Both have photo samples, but the latter has modern stocks for matching purposes, rather than reclaimed:-

Of course, you could always post some photos here and see if some of the experts can express an opinion. More info about the house in general would probably help.

I think Bulmer bricks isn't too far - great expertise there - try calling and asking! (Bit cheeky I know...)

As a very crude rule of thumb - the skinnier the face the older the brick. Mike.
