How does one achieve this colour with lime paint?

Hi everyone,

Apologies about not posting on the forum more often - been really busy trying to get the project into ship shape for Christmas.

We've limewashed all the lime plaster, thus all our walls are now gleaming white. What we would like to do now is to add some colour and warmth into the rooms. Nothing out of the ordinary. We'd like to achieve a wall colour as per the below photo.

Any idea what dyes I will need for the lime paint?

I'd have thought (experiment before wholeheartedly taking my advice) that a small amount of yellow ochre, or an even smaller amount of raw umber, would do the trick

I am also at the gleaming white stage, ... for the few walls that I've actually got around to painting
However, I have discussed how to colour limewash with the very helpful people at Earth & Reed in Needham Market. They tell me that they are happy to advise on mixing, and provide the necessary pigments once I'm ready for them.

It seems that Earth&Reed also sell a plinth paint that looks very black indeed.

Hello Woody,

I am currently limewashing the walls that colour. Its a north west facing room and will now not any sun until end of April next year and can feel particularly cold and dark but this colour makes it look warm and bright. I got it ready made from Ty Mawr Lime and its called Yellow Ochre Tint, although it is not particularly yellow, more of a warm cream.

Edit - I assume that it is half the amount of pigment that you would use to get that normal yellow ochre colour but don't quote me on that.

Moo - I recently emailed Earth & Reed to ask how breathable their plinth paint is but unfortunately I didn't receive a response.

We wanted a black plinth paint, and ended up with Beeck. A faff to apply, but looks good (so far!) and is reputed to last for decades. Surprisingly non-expensive.

Despite this thread having been running for about six weeks, and despite having had lots of fun with lime in its various guises, I cannot read "how does one achieve this colour with lime paint" without thinking it is about paint that is lime-coloured, ie a shade of green! :?
