how do we find out who owns land

I feel sure you guys can help with this one.

Friend of ours is having trouble with cricket balls coming over from cricket ground next to his property (in Holme, Via Carnforth, Lancs) smashing windows, cucumber frame, knocking out the dog etc. The cricket ground is owned by trustees - will Land registry have contact details of trustees? - he is trying to bring pressure to bear to have some sort of screen erected

Have you tried talking to the cricket team? I'd expect the captain should be able to help. If you've suffered damage then it should be covered by the club's liability insurance.

Personally I'd go round and see the captain of the cricket team and explain nicely what has been happeing and ask for his suggestions as to what they might be able to do about it.

It may be they have a committee, find out the chairman and suggest you pop a letter to him explaining your problems to be brought up at the next meeting. Ask when this is.

If being friendly and nice doesn't work then I'd look at getting legal advicee, try citizens advice bureau.

And if nothing else works, suggest to your friends that they buy a cricket bat, collect up the balls that land in their garden and thwack them into the part of the cricket club car park where all the most expensive cars are parked.

I suggested speaking to the captain and getting the chairman's number. i think they were having trouble getting in touch with anyone as pre season training not started and they wanted a screen up before it does - still the sight and sounds (aah, leather on willow, polite clapping) of a cricket match right over your fence in the summer are so quintessentially English i can't feel too sorry for him having such glorious borrowed Landscape - perhaps a little sorry for the concussed doggie though !

Training an elite force of ninja moles gets my vote too! If only to see the groundsman with a bee in his bonnet.

I would tend to not throw the cricket ball at their cars , like Penners suggested. I would aim for the stumps during one of their matches, then explain you are fully aware that IS cricket .

Ask them how can they justify calling their game " cricket" when they insist in Knocking out dogs, greenhouses, windows etc.

Tell them to stick to stumps.

It's a cricket club, not a golf club - and remember also it's oop North, where cricket is altogether more democratic.

Well, well, it's a small world, as Michelle already knows - and I'm just thinking who I know here in the village, who lives that close to the cricket ground and who would be litigious enough to take this route rather than the friendly chat approach. :wink:

I've told friend of friend to go down the friendly route!!

I think hitting balls out of the ground is actually encouraged in Cricket - it sounds like they've got some players worth poaching down your way!
