How do these shelves work?

I bought my cupboard minus the shelves and I'm unsure how they work. Are the ends of the shelves supposed to be shaped somehow, to fit in the grooves? Or should there be something else, like brackets, slotted in that the shelves sit on? I can't find anything like this on the internet, so I'd be very grateful for any help. Thanks

The pale area gives the clue. A pair of wooden supports with angles cut at each end slot into the triangular nicks in the uprights. The shelf simply rests on top. The ends of the shelves need to be shaped so that they are longer in the middle than at the font and back edges and fit snugly.
