How can I protect my house from dog urine

Does anybody know of a good dog repellent that will deter them from urinating on the corner of my house. There is no border as such to this corner, the house walls just abut onto a York stone public foot path and a public side alleyway. I’ve tried washing the wall and pavement down with a Jay’s fluid solution. The odour from this deters the dogs for a day or two. I’ve also sprinkled pepper dust around the wall and pavement but this just blows away or washes away with the rain. I think what I need is something that can be sprayed on the wall that will last at least a week even through rain and hail. Apart from the staining and odour caused by the dog urine, I’m sure that the acidity is doing my early nineteenth century brickwork no good at all. Any suggestions welcome

If you pop down to your local pet shop they should have a product you can spray on which will neutralise the urine and help to stop the smell which attracts the other dogs to scent mark over the top.

Used teabags, soaked in olbas oil....definately works in the garden.....and is much cheaper than the various solutions sold in the shops.

As an owner of several male huskies ...... from experience the boys like something to aim at........... if say a large boulder or ornament was placed in front of the wall the boys will aim at that rather than the wall............thereby saving your wall and giving you something to either dispose of or dunk in disinfectant! it may be worth a try...in my experience the anti smelly things don`t generally work.

In order to deal with the smell we use a solution called odor kill from Animal Health...it has a lovely bubblegum aroma so may help deal with the aroma... but isn`t really a preventative solution

Male dogs will urinate over other male dogs urine to put their scent on it.

Once one dog has been there others will surely follow.

Disinfectant does not work on stopping dogs from urinating over urine, it just makes them continue to urinate there as the smell of the disinfectant to them is similar to the urine.

You need to break down the urine already there, and these days there are many forms of natural products, such as I linked to, which will work on the urine and break it down.

If it is a long standing problem, then quite a lot of the product will need to be used, pariculrly if the stone is porous and it has been soaking in.

Unfortunately as the house abuts a pavement, I assume there will be no room for a boulder.

As this may take a few weeks to stop, you may find a perspex sheet of something similar, which will be impervious to the smell and easy to wash down if used, covering the corner, may help to stop others going against your wall.

We've had this problem too and have used the pet shop spray things although I guess they're a bit chemically. I find it completely disgusting that owners allow their dogs to wee up a house - I know they've got to do it somewhere but on our house, it was happening on the wall right by our front door!

We used to have a problem with dog excrement at the entrance to our driveway (we have a large gatepost). Eventually, i observed an elderly lady in the village wait whilst her dog did its deed qnd then she just walked on. So, I shovelled it into a bag....followed her and presented it to her. Needless to say, she was rather embarrassed and the problem has stopped.

Have you considered collaring dog owners in a similar way.....or even a polite temporary sign?

In Italy, the traditional way is to put a couple of bottles of water (glass or plalastic) filled with water in the place where the event takes place.
I don't know why it might work, or if it does actually work, but loads of people do it.
