Hovel worth rescuing?

We have been invited to make an offer on a rather strange building, constructed mainly of corrugated sheeting, castoffs and discarded windows. The seller is an old lady who sometimes walks round the village with several shopping bags. The cottage, three storeys high, is attached to a high brick wall, and looks in danger of collapsing in a high wind. We have not ventured inside. Its only saving grace seems to be its quiet but central location. The price she mentioned is extremely low. Should we take her at her word, and make an offer, with a view to swift demolition of the dwelling before it collapses, or leave well alone? She may be a nutcase ...

I'd check with your local authority first what the situation might be with regard to demolition... you might have to have plans in place for a replacement first, especially if this is a conservation area, and you could be left with simply a small field.

It all sound rather odd - is there a real house buried somehere under the crud?

I'd want to know its legal status, and thus what you can do with it. Do you know its approx age? Very unusual for such shacks to be 3 stories high!

Although there is this one at 12 stories, or something like that....

:lol: April noddies all, except Caliwag! This tale is based on a true event that happened to me in Kent, in the 60's. I'm pretty sure the ramshackle old hovel and its alley will be long gone by now. And no, I did not make an offer for it, but retreated with a shudder ....
