The basis of the set up was,
Apparently a washing machine leak, called in dodgy damp proofer who diagnosed rising damp, recommended an injected dpc and also some external silicone water repellent.
Tweedle dee and tweedle dum turn up in a van, tracksuits, trainers, baseball caps etc
Drill and dribble chemical into holes and then dribble silicone down wall.
One and half hours later take £790 off of the actress (sorry the client) and drive off into the sunset.
The wall was of cavity construction and the drill holes went into the outer wall only, so would have had no influence on the inner skin of wall (even if they had RD. They had also redrilled old holes (so had obvioisly been done before), chemical not injected under pressure, just dribbled into holes and down wall so likely to have stained drive.
The silicone on wall was also applied to areas where there were plants etc.
When TV company contacted them they returned monies and appologised, stating checking training procedures and survey techniques etc etc etc.
Incidently this company was well known to Trading Standards and the companies owner who did the survey said to the client that they were recommneded by Trading Standards...........how right he was!

And without the TV company you wonder how many tens of thousansd they have made doing totally unnecessary 'treatments', probably additionally at the demand of a mortgage company.
I've recently done work in a house where they've had their walls injected,
including a single skin, brick built, internal partition wall, constructed on a wooden sole plate sitting on a suspended timber floor.
I'm not sure which is more incompetent though, injecting the wall, which is not in contact with the ground or, once injecting it, only waterproof plastering one side of it?

I thought it might be Matt Green...
About 25 years ago we had a little victorian terraced labourers "cottage". The damp company injected the wall dividing our lounge from the neighbours. It was only one brick thick and they drilled right through and sprayed their stuff all down the back of the neighbours settee! They paid her compensation in the end!

Got the same labourers cottage as Zunetunes, same problem. I drilled through my neighbours skirting when I installed a cream injection in March realising only then that my party wall was only 1 brick thick!
My 94 year old neighbour bless her was very good about it. I removed her old damp skirting now with my holes in it and installed new for her within hours of the cock up!
Mind you the cream injection has worked a treat.

Yes I re-plastered. all of my old plaster was shot so we stripped it off from top to bottom.
On the party walls either side of the chimney breast I opted for 3 x 2 battens which for good measure I wrapped the bottom 2' in black polythene to avoid damp. Rockwool slabs went betweein the battens for improved sound insulation and then plaster board on top. Finally a multi finish skim.
For the rest of the house that had old walls I opted for cement/lime/plastering sand render and a multi skim to finish. The results have been very successful so far (have to go through a winter yet!). I do have a few patches where salts have lifted the emulsion. Fortunately these are not on show. I will treat these with a proprietry "damp paint" and then emulsion that.

Well, you've not exactly done what I (and I supsect PC and Matt) would consider the appropriate treatment for damp, but there you go.
I think you mistook the 'managing' idea. You can mnagae it without all this potentially damaging intervention. Find the cause is the first good idea.
Oh well. Clearly we have all been wasting our time trying on this forum to stop all this damaging intervention and use of inappropriate materials, which probably have simply masked any problems for while.

The cause of the damp? 150 old walls made from local soft red bricks and with no dpc is probably the cause. The are no drainage issues and I have dug up and replaced all of the collapsed and silted drainpipes that I found.
As for the use of inappropriate materials, I would be pleased if you could enlighten me as to what I should have done. I started researching damp problems in 2005. After much deliberating and soul searching we took what we felt was the right course of action and installed our dpc and plastered this Spring.
Given that during my time researching damp problems I could hardly find any commonality (which included some people saying that rising damp doesn't actually exist), I would be grateful if you could enlighten me as to what I should have done.
