House Numbers

Our street wasn't numbered until 1912. How would the owner have displayed this new number - on the door? - painted on the bath stone upright next to the door?
I can find no record of any earlier house name.

I have no idea, but you might help more knowledgeable people to give their view if you post a bit more detail about the house and the front door. Even a photo perhaps?

When was it built? If it was in 1901 or earlier try looking up your street in the census.

Picture to follow - land was bought in 1891 but house not on the 1901 census and according to the local directory not inhabited until 1915. (??) Door is typical heavily moulded Victorian 4 panel.
