Job done - the path and steps to the bothy (above the gig house) have been repaired and now it's all safe to walk on. All have been put together in the past from whatever was around - the step into the bothy is an old gatepost, shaped at the end, and the top step I suspect a half a grinding wheel. Not quite the right size and packed to fit but all part of the period charm.

Took the opportunity to dig out some nasty bits of cement pointing - more pics to come.

Can't see why the stuff was smeared top to bottom over the stones - hardly a crack and doubt that the cement was holding it together anyhow.

The sad part is, once it's removed you can see how small the joints are, and I wonder if pointing was required at all.

Quite amazing how much cement there is blodged on your poor house :shock:

That's the OH - I told him I didn't want him detracting from the pic, but he was pointing out the pointing in case it was hard to spot. It had been half removed by the time I took the pic, it went from roof to floor.

He's in his best work clothes and rubber gloves, which keep his hands soft and lovely. Or hide the dirt.

One wall has hardly any stone showing - it's covered with a climbing plant. No wonder.

Some of it is so hard it will be a b*gger to remove, and the stone is tiny and there is miles of it.

A CO friend said to ignore it until it drops off. But we have now started at the front so will have to go on... and that side wall is vile.
