Hi all. I haven't been on this forum for years!
Anyway, I've often wondered what this hole in our render is (house is 17th century) - it's a hole that's been created not resulting from damage. It's dry inside and I clear out any debris. The earliest photo of the house is from the 1960s and it was there then. I think the house was probably rendered in the 1950s. I suppose it's something boring like an old pipe went out there or something! Especially as there's the manhole cover there. Seems odd that the person who renovated the house in the 90s wouldn't have covered it up if it served no purpose. Nothing obvious on the inside - we're a foot below ground inside so if it went anywhere it was to the cellar. PS the gap in the render to the side is being repaired. The builder who is doing the repairs said should he fill the hole and I said no just in case it has a purpose! And apologies for the dirty window sill - I really should have cleaned it before taking a photo
