Hidcote BBC4 last night

There are some great programmes on BBC4! Last night they did an hour on National Trust garden Hidcote - fantastic place with a fascinating history. The programme presented it all beautifully and with Roy Strong commentating as well - he's always good value... And of course being an NT gardener and garden historian myself, it made my evening.

We went to Hidcote last month - it's glorious. And Roy Strong's book "The Laskett Gardens" is currently on my bedside table so I'm excited to watch this!

Anyone planning a visit to Hidcote Manor should allocate a full day to the trip, because Kiftsgate Court is literally just across the road from Hidcote. You can absolutely pig out on gardens!

Personally, I like Kiftsgate even more than Hidcote. It's a more informal, relaxed garden, and has wonderful views over the Vale of Evesham.

On the contrary, that wasn't how I read it at all. It's about mankind's selfish pursuit of happiness and enjoyment, and the technology that he has assembled to help him pursue this end - all, apparently, inspired by Ayn Rand's Objectivist philosophy. I found the programmes vague, muddled and far too easily sidetracked into tenuously connected subjects, such as the Clinton/Lewinsky affair - presumably in order to introduce a bit of sensationalist tittilation.

I quite liked that sensationalist tittilation . I did like the part about the war in the Congo being a result of the play station 2 being released in the west. They did mention once or twice how humans were machines and their primary objective was to pass their jeans on for what ever reason. I'm not going to pass my jeans on , I wish to be buried in mine.
