I've no idea whether this will be any good, but it might be worth a watch. The programme was apparently made with the co-operation of English Heritage.

I watched that trailer, and it made it sound as if the British public have embraced saving our built heritage with open arms. I see no evidence of this. Thank goodness British heritage and other heritage organisations exist.

I thought it was dull, and so I drsnk way too much red wine.

It's not going to inspire anyone. And neither will Pagans and Pilgrims before it.

Such a shame.

It was ok, although it made conservationists look like nutters. Sometimes the reason for preserving old things ( not just buildings) is because they are excellent objects and/or very beautiful in their own right, as well as giving a sense of time and place. I think this was not mentioned.

Having initiated this thread, I'm ashamed to say that I haven't yet had an opportunity to watch the programme. Judging by the comments on the first one, I didn't make too much of an effort to see the second. Maybe I should have done.

Have recorded it, but not watched yet, agree comments make it seem as though it might be a bit off track!

Have watched The Planners on 2 last night though--- cringe cringe cringe---- simply confirmed my view that these planning decisions rest on the ability of people to play with words and twist the criteria to suite themselves. Brings back memories of working with the TC and MBDC (as it was then) to get our well known supermarket into Town. As for keeping out the 400 plus another 400 plus 36 plus 36 new houses I leave that to the 'younger' and more gullible incomers. They will learn! The only good thing is that public voices have reduced the number of houses in each development and are pushing, with difficulty , the 106 funding in the right directions.
