Hemp or wool insulation

Which should I buy?
Why?
What if cost is an option?
How thick should I go for?
Is it best to lay different layers at right angles?
I have about 90 Sq metres of loft space, so it's going to be a costly exercise to do well, I don't want to mess it up.

At present there is just some old std insulation present to a depth of about 2" which I'll leave underneath.

Rockwool is more eco friendly, despite the oft stated opposite. Its lower cost means less energy is used to make and supply it. This does not mean manufature only energy, but total energy.

I've been chastised on this forum before about this but I remain unconvinced that hemp or wool are a good long-term solution for insulating anything.
My greatest concerns are long-term rot, vermin and decay.
While in good conditions the hemp and wool may behave well I'm not so sure in a house with a leaking roof or bird problems that it will not contribute to the problems further.
Ordinary mineral insulation does not inter-react with anything, hemp and wool do.
Also it isn't as fire-resistant as mineral insulation is by nature and it is much more expensive.
