Help with measurments please?

I need to get my floor height please, so I need to know how high roughly the brim of a bathroom basin is off the floor and also the minimum safe height between inside and outside floor levels separated by a flint plinth with a clay lump wall ontop.
I'm thinking 900mm for the basin.

Bit high I think - would suit those of a lanky persuasion but not the vertically-challenged. A quick survey of Feltwell Towers reveals 790, 825 and 855mm - but the 790 is because the pedestal is on the original (nice quarry tile) floor but the floor has been overlaid and the pedestal tiled round with cheapo modern floor tiles :roll: so the manufacturer's intended height is probably more like 810-ish. These are all fairly standard modern-ish basins, no bowls overly deep or shallow.

I presume you've got a wall-hung basin to fit then.

It is indeed, and a window dictating how high it goes. I've got 4 different floor levels (concrete) to try to make equal and my basin and kitchen sink heights are governing my levels. :shock: Not to mention the low ceiling height at the lowest part of the lean-to.

Do they really have to be all at the same level? I've got 3 different heights across my ground floor - the "worst" being a step up from the kitchen to the hallway of only about an inch - just enough that you think people (especially young kids) would not see it and would trip over it. Floors are original on both sides.

In fact it's been fine, the only person who has ever tripped over it was my youngest when he was just starting to learn to walk - and within the day he'd learnt to stop, grab the door frame, step over and then continue toddling.

They dont all have to be the same level, but as I am doing all the floors I would like a little continuity, to make it work my hall floor will climb a couple of inches. Hopefully wont be noticeable over 7 or so meters.

I doubt very much it will be noticeable over that distance, so long as there's nothing level to reference it to.

Whichever plumber put the radiators in this house, not only did he clearly not possess a spirit level but he also must have had one leg 5" shorter than the other. Some of the radiators really are shockingly bad - they are long, long way out of level, and are all the more obviously on the wonk for being so close to the skirting. It's very odd because he made quite a good job of the pipe runs.

Another job to do! Not exactly top of the list though.

Only make your rads level if everything else is. :wink:
So, outside levels? Would a couple of inches be OK? If my floors were the same level as outside would I be asking for trouble?

Rads will be made "level" in relation to the floor & skirting beneath them! Which actually are fairly level anyway.

Normally I'd say outside ground level needs to be at least 3" below DPC, preferably 6", but I presume there is no DPC here.

I don't think I'd be happy with inside & outside ground levels being the same with any wall construction unless there was absolutely no way to avoid it, and then I'd be considering options such as a small open trench or French drains up against the wall and looking very carefully at where surface water will run to in a storm.

But hopefully bumping this up means someone with more experience of clay lump walls will reply!

Regarding basin height my plumber told me that the industry standard is so the gentleman fitting it could wee into it!
As he was shorter than me then the wall mounted one in our downstairs loo is a little low for me but hardly a big deal.
I've just measured them and the wall mount is only 735mm from the floor and the pedestal mounted ones elsewhere are 850mm which explains a lot!
