Help with floor problem

Hello All
I have been pulling up my floor bit by bit and repalcing it with a new solid floor as the existing floor is cut to peices.
i have hit a brick wall (literally)

if you look in the picture you will see that i have come accross the peice at the bottom of the stairs and this goes directly under the brick wall and carrys on.
i have tried to remove this so i can put in a new peice but it does not move.

what is the best way to do this, im sure one of you has foudn this before.

wow now im in need of some advice.
the suspended floor runs right under the brickwork all the way into the cellar wall.
what is my best option?

Cut the flooring and try and make it look half decent against the old floornig in the middle of the last joist?
well and truly stuck now
it looks like the wall was built on top of the suspended floor, its not a supporting wall as it just seperates the stairs and 2nd reception room.

Cut the old boards right next to wall. On the left you have a joist to take the new board. On the right screw or nail a block to the joist so you've got something to support the end of the new board.

I think my reaction would be to stop doing anything else and get a structural engineer in to take a look. A brick wall supported on a floor joist (is this correct?) doesn't sound a good idea to me. The floorboards will be spreading the load onto neighbouring joists so these don't want to be removed - though the brick wall may need to be.

I hope that doesn't sound too alarmist but structural stuff is something you need somebody with expertise to look at.

It was not uncommon to build an internal wall on top of a suspended floor, yes even in cinder block or brick. The hall/sitting room wall in our 1932 house was so, and not knowing I hung a 345lb cast-iron radiator on it, using 3/8"coach crews in no 24 Rawlplugs. No harm done.

Hi All
i found that the next ten floor boards are into the brick work suppor the above internal wall.
after that it is brick work right to the ground as in the cellar' ete there is some cupboards hense no brick work to ground level.

i ended up cutting them in the middle of the left joist and putting some wood screwed into the joist to support the new flooring.
yeah the ikd floor will stick out of the skirting by about an inch along half of the wall under the rad but with some wood fillar and some patient sanding im sure i can make this look natural.

stressful day over

it seems like the bricks sit on the flooring and the flooring is supported by both joists so i dont want to disrupt it.
do you think this will work or will they two types of wood look a different colour?
should i cut them close to the wall and add in some new wood?
the peice at the bottom of the stairs goes right under the first step into the cellar so that peice i will have to sand back and hope for the best

My main concern about cutting right back to the wall would be that the brick wall is sitting on the timber and that is supported by two joists.
Any more advice would be great.

Is the brick over both joists? or do the boards bridge a gap between them? The load should be spread on to both joists. If its the boards that are doing the spreading (can't tell on the pictures) then plan B is required.

What a rubish illustration (doh doesn't work). Cut the old board at angle, dotted line sould be at an angle (not easy - Try jigsaw from the side of the joist?) and lap the new board over the top.

HI there
Today i got out my sander and a peice of the old floor and gave it a good sand, it looks the same as my new flooring so with some elbow greece the two peices at the bottom of the stairs can be sanded back and stained the same colour as the hall and not look out of place.
as for the room side of the wall i can also do that or as you say cut them at an angle, i have not decided which yet as there are nail's in the wood but as its under the rad some good sanding and it wont look out of place at all and still support the wall.
