Hi all
Thanks in advance for any advice and help on the problem and solution.
I bought double glazed sash windows 7 years ago but I am unsatisfied with the noise. I don’t have exact details but I believe Each pane is the standard 3-4mm.
I can’t afford a full window replacement (they still look like new!), and the installer does not do glazing replacement, so I have done quite a bit of research and here is the diy solution I drafted and on which I welcome help.
I want to replace the standard double glazing to put laminated/acoustic double glazing (anyone knows if it’s the same?), ie outer pane 6.4mm or 6.8mm, made of two glued panes, and internal pane of standard 3-4mm. To fit the glazing in the existing sash case, I will keep the same overall glazing thickness, by reduce the space in between the external and internal panes.
Is the solution feasible?
Will i have to replace the sash cords weights, due to the possible change in glazing weight? If so how should the weight be calculated? I am good diy’er but can I change the weights myself with limited pro-tools?
I am planning to order online from
https://www.sealedunitsonline.co.uk/regular/default_mob.aspx. Has anyone used them?
Thanks again
Antonio
