Help Water Diviner Required

Now don't laugh, but does anyone know of a Water Diviner in the Dorset Area.

I'm dealing with a rather complex damp / water problem and think that a water divener could save need to start digging.

Had water board to look but they've drawn a blank.

Hi I live in Shaftesbury and I have vague memory of looking up courses in this at one time as I was keen to learn more - so you could try the local educational establishments - also another thought is the DCRS (Dorset Centre for Rural Skills) in Farrington nr Blandford they may know of someone - sorry I can't be of more help although I have some divining rods! Why not have a go yourself? I have always heard that anyone can dowse (though I've never tried it myself).

Do I remember that diviners only find running water ?

bend a couple of wire coat hangers and have a go.

Yes, do have a go. Bend two bits of wire coathanger to 90 degrees so you have a 6" bit to hold vertically in each hand, and about an 18" horizontal. Walk along with the wires held loosely and tilted ever so slightly forward so they point away from you, and when they turn to cross each other, you've found something. I promise you, I was totally sceptical that it would ever work, but it does! However, ...... the only problem I found, is that I seem to be able to dowse for water, electrical cables, and also lode stone, but have never managed to work out which is which without digging!

Have a go yourself when you find water they should cross over, try to ask precise questions such as direction of flow which should have both rods pointing the same way. Good luck.

Jon Maine's advice is absolutely sound. You must concentrate your mind on the particular objective. The first borehole I had sunk, I walked the field with dowsing rods. Later, the vicar's wife did the same, we both picked the same spot. However, when the dowser came, he marked a completely different spot. I told him that two of us had dowsed a different spot. Ralph Wilkins dowser of Chacewater (why not?) asked me if I could imagine 500 gallons per hopur of water. Right, he says, you take a hold of one leg of the rod and I will take the other. We walked another field and when we reached the right spot the rod was fairly forced out of our hands. Every other contributor has told you that it works. It does, but you must be able to think what you are looking for. According to Ralph, you can find a potable water source anywhere in Devon and Cornwall except for Ashburton - I never found out about the exclusion..

Thanks to every one who's responded.

I have had a go at this before but in view of the problem I am dealing with felt it should have a more professional approach.

My suspicions relate to the possiblilty of a spring that runs beneath a kitchen in 1880's cottage that has recently been refurbished. Clients first found damp patch on joint in quarry tiles and called in water board, as very close to rising main.

They found no problem, then called in plumber to check from stop cock they found no problem!

I was called in to invetigate damp to adjacent walls which is clearly related to floor as if you lay paper towel on floor it is soaked within seconds.

In view of the history (as reported) Water Diviner next step. Thanks for all your help to date, will keep you informed.
