Help to choose a brick type for a fireplace

Can any one advise me of a suitable brick type that I could use please?
I have installed a log burner on a slate (blue) hearth and I am going to build a brick wall around the exsisting chimney breast which needs to be covered because it is random rubble/brick and looks awful.
I would like a distressed rustic red brick colour that would match the slate.

Your best option may be to go to a second hand brick seller (there are many such people around) and pick what you like. If you need massive quantites, you can get them made but its very slow.

As Craig suggests, an architectural reclamation yard should be a useful place to source such things. I would suggest, however, that you try to choose a brick that is appropriate to any others in the house, and/or to your area of the country.

And try to use an architural reclamation company which subscribes to the 'Salvo' code of practice. This should ensure that the materials have been properly sourced.
