help!! ref advise for interior modifications

moving into an aprtment in an 1880 former hunting lodge in burton lazars which has 18 aprtments, would like to know if permission or what is required to update the flat, it has had a new kitchen installed already by previous owners. the bathroom is modern but need replacing and ceilings needs reboarding and plastering. carpets in bedrooms need lift and floorbaords sanding and varnishing.
the caretaker says u can do what u like in the flat. is that correct or do i have to see his reports on the building

yes they tell me its grade 2 listed, but yet it has PVC double glazed windows all around the whole building

First of all, I'd check with the local authority that these were given Listed Building Consent.

Also, beware having bare board floors in a flat. Sound is deadened by carpet. If you remove it you may be giving your neighbours underneath a lot of grief.

You need a chat with your conservation officer. Ignore the caretaker on this one. Find out for sure what you can do internally with or without consent. Its worth it in the long run.

Things are restrictive with listed buildings, and there is no time limit on enforcement. Best talk to the CO.

Just adding my voice to everyone's above. You need to talk over your plans with your CO, who will tell you whether LBC is required.

And - as Sue advised - beware of bare boards in a flat. They do risk fallings out with your neighbours.
