I am planning to do some roof repairs to replace broken tiles (roof, hip, ridge) and am trying to find out what clay tiles I have so any help appreciated - they are dark reddish
They are usually called club tiles, some manufacturers call them ornamental Tudor tiles but that covers a variety of shapes.
“Clay club” is your best bet if you are trying to source more - if they are original then there is a high likelihood they would have been hand made and so finding replacements the exact same size will be difficult
the only way you are going to match what you have is by trailing the reclaimed yards, they are a decorative rosemary style roof tile probably hand made & definitely no longer made
Thanks both and yes I am looking at the reclamation yards as there are a few large ones in the midlands and I have seen similar pictures in their adverts. I thought knowing the name would help identify who had them and I would go and do a visual comparison before buying.. I have been told they are fairly commonly used in properties in my area so am hoping they won't be a nightmare to get hold of. Hopefully I won't need loads..
I have done some basic ebay style searches and found that there are loads of different club tiles but it seems like my ones are a 'standard' size of 10.5inches by 6.5 inches. There are various shades of red and there seems to be many various branding including rosemary.
The hip tiles seem to come under the heading 'Arris red' and also have a few different measurements but look the same as mine.
Given there are a range of shades of red I suspect I will have to travel around and do a comparison with one of mine
I doubt I will need a huge amount - so hopefully can find some at one of these reclaimed yards. Will also check with a couple of period property architects etc to see if anyone recognises them from other jobs.
