I need some advice here as I'm going around in circles. External wall of the chimney stack has very erroded stones. I had a specialist look at it and they recommended hydralic lime mortar, so I've got that and the correct sand. Now what?
Company recommended bag pointing, I can't find a mason who knows what that is. CO recommended we slurry it after pointing it normally? If yes details please. Then there's talk of shelter coatings more then just lime wash, which it probably needs also. It's a very hard area to access, well its costing a couple thousand in scaffolding to access it so not something I want to do often.
The chimney is built of both sandstone and limestone, the sandstone is extreamely weathered but can be saved and not rebuilt as long as we act fast. So what's the best way I can protect this area for the longest time?
It's late please forgive the typos and thanks in advance.
