How are you? Good to hear that you have plenty of work.

The floors you did for me are still looking great. The Bona Kemi finish on the pine stairs leading to the basement is starting to wear through in parts now - this is the route to the kitchen and gets heavy traffic. Should I just apply a coat on top after a light sand, or is it best to strip right back?

Joce, will read your pm and get back to you once my keyboard has cooled down.

NIGEL. Hope you are well. If the wear has not gone through to the wood you can get away with a really good clean (hot washing powder or fairy liquid) I normally clean twice and rinse twice, followed by a thorough sand by hand with a peice of P240 grit paper (stearated blue and white paper is best for intercoat sanding like this) followed by a fresh top coat of Bona. Cannot remember what I used and if I left you any, if not then you can buy a 1 ltre bottle of Bona Mega satin or matt, not sure if they sell Traffic in 1 litre sizes as this would be harder wearing but costs nearly £100 for the 5 litre container. If the finish has broken through you could try carefully sanding the area (presumably on the edge of the treads which take a battering) with some P100 or P120 grit paper, finishing with P180 grit, Then patch repair (and then clean and overcoat the whole stairs) Only if there is extensive finish missing and the underlying wood has gone grey would you need to sand the whole treads off.

I am sure it would be a mere triffle of a task for someone with your wood working abilities!

ps using a nice synthetic Purdy type brush (Purdy's really are better I have never lost a hair from one of them, ever!) applying a decent amount on horizontal surfaces ie treads and then laying off is the key, on vertical surfaces ie the risers use as little as possible and work fast to avoid brush marks, floor lacquers are self levelling so tend to drip very bady on verticals, you have been warned.
