Hi all
Back in January I needed to store some stuff in a bedroom I had plastered (gypsum) some time ago the previous year, so I gave it a quick 'mist coat' with standard contract emulsion. I've never painted fresh plaster before, opinions of how much to dilute seemed varied when I googled, the manufacturer said 30%. I 'eyeballed' it as best I could.
Today I was moving some stuff around and I noticed that on some areas I can run my hand across the wall and there's chalky like paint on my fingers, although the paint underneath doesn't seem to be about to go anywhere. In other areas it seems fine and I get no chalky residue at all. And in some areas if I rub hard enough I can take the paint off the surface (plaster too polished?)
Is this normal, or have I failed to dilute the paint enough?
I won't be back decorating in this room any time soon but when I do I guess I ought to wipe the walls down with a wet sponge to remove any residue and do another mist coat?
