Looks like arson given the police have arrested two people in connection with it.

It follows a pattern down here in Hastings. Lots of historical buildings have been demolished to make way for flats etc, not saying the pier was but the timing of the fire is very suspicious.

Number of possible theories:

1 Kinds having a laugh and burning it for fun. Though why now? Timing and at 0100.

2 Rav3n cl/-\w decide to take revenge, the council cpo'd it so to spite us all "...if we can't have it you cannot."

3 The trust who took over could not get anywhere near the membership and said chuff this for a lark, let's durn it bown.

4 Somebody local really does not want the pier and had bonfire night early.

I wonder if it was insured, and if so who gets the money ? Surely burning it down doesn't really benefit anyone in the same way that being rid of a house does. I can imagine it was just people messing about and thinking it would be a laugh
