Thank you all very much for you kind words. The piece of lino was in fact an octopus, and very tasty too, and I refute the metropolitan sophisticate tag. As a suburbanite educated in rural Essex I am only urban by adoption and not quite city nor country. For my birthday a few years ago we took a cottage in the peak district and I wore my normal corduroys and tweeds to drive up there. When we arrived, the owner, who knew we were from London, took one look at me and said "I hope you don't mind me asking, but do you always dress like a farmer?"
