Very sorry to hear about your friends FW.

If I was superstitious I'd say it was the time of year. We're basking in snowdrops at the moment (well, you know what I mean) but they are somewhat bitter-sweet in our family. Mother and father -in-law both died when the snowdrops were out (different years), two of my close friends died at the same time of different years (one last year and both far too young for my liking!) and my Grandmother died a couple of weeks ago. Today we heard that a close friend's mother died last night.

Still, the snowdrops do look lovely and my Grandmother's death certificate stated "old age" as the cause of death (2 months short of 103) so that's something to aim for.

So did my mother's, though your grandmother beat her by over ten years.
She was in a wonderful retirement home where early-morning tea was brought to her room. That morning she had also opted to have breakfast brought up, but when the girl arrived with it she found my mother snuggled down in her bed and the empty tea cup on her bedside table. The lucky old soul had decided to have forty more winks and just didn't wake up again.
That's how I want to go.

Thanks guys. Our oldest friends have just had an unexpected diagnosis today of cystic fibrosis for their 18 month old toddler. It all seems so unfair. Fine dining and wines postponed to another night.
