Hall lantern

Had some fun working out how to hang this. I even broke the cage holding the pulley wheels so had to make new arms and solder them on, but it turned out nicely in the end. It's never simple!!

I have a shade very simular to that that was hanging in my hallway when I brought the house, its currently in safe keeping but it needs a lot of work to get it to looking as good as yours!

When I moved into our home, the previous owner left the lantern hanging, I was initally going to throw it out not knowing what it was!

I'd imagine a lot of things are thrown out because they are slightly broken or people don't know what they are. Glad you kept it.

I have a small lantern, not as nice as that one though, awaiting restoration (*) for my hallway.

* That's man-speak for "in a box in the garage gathering dust and will probably continue to do so for many years yet"!

That is a fantastic lamp, late Victorian with a bit of arts and crafts influence I think.did it have it’s font before you electrified it? I have left the fonts and chimneys in all our lamps, just fitted up a chandelier bulb.

Unfortunately it didn't have a font, just the bare lantern. I also don't like removing parts from old lamps and have electrified another oil lamp without removing anything so it could be an il almp again if one wished. I even have 2 oil lamps that are still oil lamps! The middle bit can pull down on the chains and pulleys but I wouldn't fancy it surviving too long of I was to do that more than once or twice.

I suppose it woudl be easy to put a font in it.
