Does anybody out there live in a terraced house with half-bay windows at the front? Our house was built in 1898 and is a fairly large terrace with cellars (converted). I remember reading once that half-bays were built in order to make the terrace look a lot grander than it actually is, and the overall effect was to make them look like semis. The only ones I can remember seeing in our area like this with the half-bay are actually semis, and I was wondering how unusual a row like ours actually is (or maybe I have not been paying enough attention, but I vow on our next trip out to be more observant and seek some out!) Also, when we first moved in I was unsure how to dress the windows initially, but then I quickly came to the conclusion that the half bay needs to be concealed from the inside, i.e. one heavy and full curtain on each side, (the half-bay side being cleverly concealed). Anybody have any thoughts on this? Also, our front windows are huge and unfortunately there are no houses on this lone row left with original windows I would love to know what the windows would have been like? We are south facing so I made some really heavy fabric blinds to protect my beautiful living room from the sun. Maybe originally they would have been stainded glass? A lovely thought indeed!! Would welcome any comments on this, many thanks.
