Ground source heat pump

We are thinking of installing ground source heat pumps and I have been doing a lot of research to decide what supplier to use. The outcome of my research is that I need to get someone to design it who has plenty of experience with borehole systems.

I have spoken to a few suppliers and I have run fast from some, got no reply from others and by default have a short list of two, but both are recommending themselves and I am not sure that either knows much about boreholes so I would really like to hear recommendations from people who have had a GSHP satisfactorily installed, preferably with a borehole system

Comments or advice anyone?

Wyatts of Whitchurch (Shropshire) are extremely competent borehole engineers - did ours, and are always recommended by anyone who knows them. They clearly know something about GSH (because they have a page about it on their website!) and I would expect them to be every bit as competent in that area. I believe they work nationally.

I thought it might be useful to pass on our experience of getting a heat pump installed though ours will be a loop system for a very big 6 bedroom barn conversion so our experience might not be entirely useful. Some things to bear in mind:

The quote was already very high for the system and installation -£25k - that's without the digging and because it's a big pump, the extent of the excavation for the loops is shockingly huge (and messy) and wouldn't be viable without the field behind the barn. We need two large cylinders and an expansion tank which need to be sited very carefully (in a bespoke cupboard) so as little heat as possible is lost. The pipe run from the loops in the field to the cylinders needs to be as short as possible for the same reason so you need to consider where you will put this. The insulation lagging is very expensive. We are having to build a cupboard for the manifold wich is large and needs to be accessible. The pump itself has to have 90cm access around it so we have had to have a massive bunker built (more expense) just outside the barn adjacent to the wall where the cylinders will sit. Frankly I'm reeling from the sheer hassle and expense and can't believe that despite all the research I did, nobody mentioned all of these things.

I hope the RHI's and cheap heating makes me forget all of this but I wish I"d known it all beforehand. Good luck with your project.
