Great paint - Rubbish tins

Just bought some clay paint (won’t mention the brand).
Last year the paint was supplied in plastic tubs and now it’s supplied in trendy tins. Problem is, the lids to these new tins are totally rubbish. The rim of the lid is so malleable that it’s completely knackered after levering it open just once let alone a couple of times. I tried to store half of a 5 litre tin by hammering the lid rim flat again only to discover a few months later that both the lid and the can edge had started to rust.
Come on guys, the paint is great but please use containers that match the standards of the more regular paint brands.

That problem is easily solved.

Put the lid back on the tin as best you can.
Place the tin inside a stout ziplock polythene bag.
Run a hose from the bag to a vacuum pump and evacuate all of the air.
Place the entire package into a Tupperware container, put the lid on and "burp" it.
Wrap gaffer tape around the edge of the lid, to seal it on to the container.

Your paint will now remain in good condition for several hours.

Ive just had the opposite , Laura Ashley egg shell paint , absolutely rubbish paint in a nice tin.
You may as well try and paint with milk. You also need the surface keyed to oblivion before it will stick. Never again will i delve into the ''trendy'' side of the paint market. Laura should stick to making doilies and leave the paint making to the experts , like dulox etc.

The same applies to this forum's favourite brand of linseed paint. The metal is so poor that the rim gets all bent out of shape on opening or closing to the point that you are really better decanting into jars if you are using it over a few sessions.

I've only ever bought their linseed oil in plastic bottles - 5l at a time. More expensive than a small house, but well worth it.

Having seen photos of your mansion, FW, I've no idea how you know what a small house costs.

Listen, old chap, since your self-imposed period in purdah you seem to have been much more reluctant to "pop in" to PPUK threads. I've had nobody to bait.

Don't agree, had no problems with this paint at all.
I am talking about a bare timber surface that gets 2 coats of Dulux Interior Primer first though - then 3 thin coats of the trendy paint. So 5 coats in all.
How it sits on top of old paint I don't know - but I would say don't judge the new low VOC interior paint finishes until 4 months have elapsed, FnB says they harden to be indistinguishable from the old oil paints and I'd agree broadly speaking.

Oh and I can report that the venison & cranberry and haggis, neeps & tatty pies from Lochinver Larder were upto scratch*, and that the Arch Inn in the village has a rather good upstars restaurant now. Parletts has had a Mace makeover though, and now actually sells stuff. It's just not the same.

*Some of the best (period) pies int he world. I would heartily recommend them as suitable sustenance for a day's hard work with lime:
