greasy looking patches through reskimmed walls

We've had our hall reskimmed/plastered and painted it with the appropriate paint but it looks awful owing to greasy looking patches here and there that have appeared. I've tried painting over them but it still shows through. Has anyone else experienced this?

What did you have it skimmed with, and what type of paint did you use?

the walls were re plastered and we used johnstone's paint which is supposed to be ideal for new plastered walls!

What sort of plaster? Lime or modern gypsum?

I don't know to be honest, we didn't ask for anything out of the ordinary and I know its the stuff the lads use for all their work. Sorry, I'm not very good at this am I?

Sounds like modern gypsum then.

Is the paint coming off?

no the paints fine, it just looks awful with the greasy looking patches!

'greasy' looking patches can sometimes be the result of gypsum plaster being over-polished so that it becomes so smooth that paint doesn't adhere properly (which maybe isn't the case here, if the paint is not coming off). Or it could be that the patches are where the plaster is thicker, and it hasn't had a chance to dry properly.
How long after it was plastered was the hall painted?

probably about 3 months. We didn't notice any greasy patches before the paint went on.

the patches are funny, for example, we have what looks like circular patches here and there about 2 inches in diam. It's very strange and no one seems to know what's causing it.

Where abouts on the wall are they, are they at regular intervals and do you have pictures?

is it damp?

Is it regular spacing (plasterboard supported by dots of plaster)

Its not plasterboard and its not damp, I do have some pictures, could you look at them?

Does anyone recommend anything to cover them?

Well, if this was me I'd try a stain block then repaint, but only on one patch to see if it has any effect.

Can you use a stain block on recently plastered walls. I know johnstones do a paint that's supposed to cover everything but I don't know if you can use it on new plaster. Someone suggested upva glue but I believe that can cause all sorts of problems? how do I post a photo on here? Thanks for your help[/url]
