Just spotted - Grand Designs tonight, 9pm, revisits Ben Law in that lovely cruck-framed cottage he built in the woods - looks like an updated episode.

Well worth watching, a beautiful house.

My favourite GD as well. I missed the follow-up and will try the online 'repeat' - thanks for the reminder.

I recall the original programme touching on the difficuly with planning permissison and that it was only granted temporarily while the owner lived there. I can't imagine Ben wanting to move out but the implication is that it must be demolished when the Grim Reaper finally calls.
Such a shame. Perhaps it will be listed by then.

Yes, that was the deal. It's a shame that the house will be lost, but you know... I can't help feeling that there's something right about it. It's such an intensely personal building that it would seem wrong for anyone else to live in it.

Well, if they can list Park Hill in Sheffield, then I guess lack of age is not necessarily a barrier.....

However, rather unlike Park Hill (in its present state at least), in this case it is the atmosphere created around and by the building that is a large part of its appeal.

I hadn't seen it at all: thanks Feltwell for the Channel 4 catch up link. What a lovely, lovely building, a much-needed reminder to me that not everything new needs to be an absolute eyesore.

I want him to come here and pull down the eye wateringly ugly concrete workshop and build us a nice cruck framed one!
