Two days before our mortgage offer was due to expire, and a full seven months after our offer was accepted, we've got our house!

To be honest, I'd stopped visiting the forums a while back, frustrated at reading other peoples problems, solutions, and projects, while having nothing to get my own teeth into, but now I'm back, with a late 17th century cottage in need of plenty of care and attention to my name.

Congratulations. It took me 14 months from first sight to having the keys, so I know what long waits are like.

why damp, of course! ...although nothing that fixing up the guttering, and diverting downpipe outlets away from the base of the walls, plus a little time shouldn't sort out.

other than that there's a fair bit of 'modernization' that needs undoing, then redoing more sympathetically, a kitchen, a bathroom, flooring, decorating, etc etc.

the bathroom is the bank holiday project, and i'm clock watching till i feel i can justify calling it a day and getting back over to the new place!

14 months is rough, the only real consolation with the time taken to complete on ours is that as prices have continues to rise, we got ourselves a bargain. perhaps.

We are a really odd lot, we go to a lot of trouble so we ca accumulate a lot more trouble in order to be happy.

Thanks Penners, although my wait was only 6 months, it was MattJ who had the even crazier 14 month wait.

Nice discovery today by the way, ripped off some hardboard cladding to discover a lovely wide-planked wooden 'wall' running up the side of the stairs. And the quarry tile floor, that we'd peeked a glance of by lifting a corner of carpet, extends right across the wall, and save for a good few layers of paint, is in pretty good condition, and will clean up great.
