good timber merchant required

Our timber merchant has unfortunately suffered from our very limited purchases and gone bust
I'm looking for a great timber merchant, anyone want to send some recommendations my way.
Emphasis would be on the quality of the timber, so I don't mind paying for delivery here if they supply top notch wood.

Are you after sawn oak & softwood or somewhere that stocks mouldings as well Graham?

For a sawmill, the Raby estate mill is very friendly and is not that far from you - just off J7 of the M54. It's a proper old fashioned sawmill.

For somewhere that stocks PAR, mouldings etc I've struggled to find anywhere any better than the local builders merchants, who carry the usual very limited choice.

I came across an advert for this firm in Telford which could be promising for things like bespoke mouldings, but I haven't tried them yet.

I'm after sawn and PAR, softwood and Oak.
I was searching for Raby saw mills, but couldn't remember their name and no amount of googling brought them up.

Can't remember if Raby do planed or not - I think they may do, as last time I was up there they had a load of oak posts that they'd prepared for Wolverhampton Council, they were all planed smooth if I remember rightly.

Graham, I don't know how much timber you need to order at a time - if it's not very much then this information is probably no help to you. But one of the best hard- and softwood specialists that I've come across is Thorogoods, in Ardleigh, Essex. I found their quality excellent.

Here's a picture taken at the Raby Estate Sawmill in Uppington, at a guess, sometime in the thirties. My Grandfather was clerk of works on the estate, later succeeded by my Uncle. It's good to see it's still going strong.

Cheers, will look into them both. The quote for the wood for the windows is just over £600 plus vat....... so I assume worth it for whomever wants the order.
Of the four I emailed, 1 phoned to have a chat, sounded very nice guy, does both hard and soft wood. Then emailed on a quote and is quite close.
One doesn't do softwood.
Ray only do fresh sawn wood, no dried.
Fouth one hasn't replied.
