interesting how a property like this,and many others
are left to rot and as soon as someone wants to bring it back to life everyone jumps on there high horse about restoration. i thought the work carried out was very good and if i had 700k plus to spend
would have done the same.the reason the laws were lax on this property i thought were obvious.
and what was there to save anyway.
at least they got rid of that extension which makes me wonder how it was listed in the first place.

I have been looking at these messages about this TV show and wanted to wait and post. I think my main point is what a waste of money this project seemed to have been, I am sure they could have saved so much money by simply selling all the stuff they ripped out. Just to watch that fire with these boards on made me nearly cry!!! But what else would you expect from someone who knew little of the financial value let alone the historic of the fabric - not her fault just not well informed and all she really wanted was a nice house near her youngsters school.

Many people have mentioned that the place was on its last legs and it is good to have been saved but for 700000 you could have done a much nicer job - just looked like a big new house to me in deepest darkest Slurry (as we like to calll it in the smoke).

I did enjoy (in a twisted type of way) the scene with the Young Blonde lady watching the kitchen floor being ripped up in front of her very eyes - I would have filled up the boot of that fancy new Discovery with these bricks and been straight on Slavo . com!!!

But Gareth you make a good point about too much money being spent on these places and I also wonder if she had a proper survey done by the correct people etc or just another architect with no experience in these buildings.

Rumour has it (and I certainly didn't watch the show) that the boards had a bit of rot in the ends and were all burnt.

Say it ain't so. Say someone didn't just burn a load of good quality slow-grown softwood.

Yup, they did. The problem with the boards is that they were pine and Lady Faceache wanted oak.

And of course they weren't salvaged because this is Surrey, for God's sake, everyone wants oak.

And Lady Faceache also had far too much money at her disposal. The likes of us lot, who have to count every penny, would have laughed most hollowly at any suggestion that we should go to all that unnecessary expense.
Come to think of it, it's not just we paupers who abhor waste - I used to play golf with a very grand lady who was, by any standards, pretty rich; she wasn't mean, but she never wasted a penny and never threw away anything that could be re-used or sold. She despised people like Lady F (I think she called them something like 'nouveau riche').

I liked the gentle observation, as the tiles were being prised off the gable that the builder didn't seem to be finding them 'dangerously loose'

I don't know about anyone else, but I felt a real sense of noble self-sacrifice when I had forced myself to watch it right through to the end. How many other people were nearly in tears by the time it was half-way through?

I wonder if they could all point out an Oak tree in the garden???? or just order it out of the F**** E**** brochure???? I also wonder where this Oak floor came from? Enviro friendly maybe - maybe not.

It looked quite like the houses you see on the USA home shows with massive fridge frezzers etc. What happened to the pool? my dog loves a swim maybe we can go over and have a dip in the summer!!

What do I know about taste I have pink ceilings with polyerstyrene paper under.

Well, I was pretty livid (I don't think I've been that angry since Delia decided we all needed half an hour to be taught how to make toast).

By a process of elimination I reckon it's the Old Vicarage at Bramley in Waverley District Council's area. (The details aren't on Listed Buildings Online).

If Lady Faceache is kept awake by a grinding noise in the middle of the night, it'll be Henry Woodyer turning in his grave, just at the end of the garden.

the place was a dump,and the best place for the so called experts was in that skip,you fail to see the bigger picture im afraid. the place had been botched from day one,with cheap materials.only that staircase was worth saving.the tiles were also added later "not origional" to the outside.i personaly
think it is a far better prop now,and has more class.
would you rather see it crumble into nothing and a property developer build two executive modern houses on the land i dont think so.

I have a very demanding job too keeping my beloved Daleks going, because of their age I have to keep them going with bits and bats of modern materials. If I don’t do this they would just drop and rot. The moral behind this being, do we allow these old buildings we all love to get in to such a state of repair that the only option is to pull them down, or do we allow modern materials to be used to save these buildings even if only in parts?

I think its the Vicarage at Graffham - just outside of Bramley - there is a sign outside with the builders name that says something along the lines of "another period development by..............."

Yes, Grafham it is (I was going by the photo of the church on the Images of England site, which lists it under Bramley).
Henry Woodyer, the architect's own house is in the same hamlet, and as I mentioned, he's resting less than peacefully in the churchyard at the bottom of the vicarage garden.

Blast, I didn't make a note (it's the church, not the vicarage though, as that hasn't got onto the site, yet)
Do a text search for all of the words Woodyer and Bramley - Woodyer's house is on there too.
