Good News and a Big Thank You

Very happy to report that based on the sage advice which I received here His Lordship bought a Linksys Velocipede Homely Mesh system for the problematic WiFi and it works. Works very well in fact. The signal now reaches up to the top of the house and down to the basement. Football can be watched uninterrupted from bed or sofa as the fancy takes.

Anyway, himself asked me to pass on his grateful thanks as he had no idea where to begin with buying a box of magic pixies to sort out the issue, and truth be told I refused to get involved because the odd bit of glitchy football wasn’t any sort of tragedy to me

I usually watch the foosball with him, although "watch" isn't really the word. I'm present, foosball is on the screen but my attention is mostly on another screen. My speciality is making annoying predictions like "they're going to score a late equaliser" when the opposition are losing.
Now the internet is working properly in the TV area he's plotting what size screen will fit as what's there is deemed completely inadequate

Lady A, there is a worrying trend for some to invest in ever larger tv screens. I recently visited with family and was sitting in their lounge where I was able to easily view the screen of the tv - in the neighbours house across the intervening road!.

During that same visit I discovered that one of my brothers grand-children, a teenager, had an 80 inch tv installed in his bedroom for gaming - this latest generation seems not to have got the text/email/memo about the more interesting forms of bedroom entertainment.

This trend is worrisome as I recently found myself investing in a new tv because I was having difficulty reading the on-screen text without my glasses. True I bought a slightly larger screen; but I shied away from anything that may have caused a recurrence of the neck injury I sustained at Wimbledon.

Can I suggest that you get his Lordship to an optician before his next visit to Currys?

When we were in Singapore someone in the same estate had a gigantic TV screen which seemed to cover almost an entire living room wall. I wasn’t sure if it was an actual screen or some sort of professional projection device. I would regularly see enormous boxes in the recycling area there and I would look at his Lordship and say “No”, having an outrageous TV was one of the common status symbols, cars also a favorite, we lowered the tone in that area too, guess which was our vehicle

The most fitting would be the Roller but I feel that you're somewhat less ostentatious in your tastes.

In one of my professional incarnations I would visit Singapore once each month during one of my global circuits that took in Paris, São Paulo, Dallas and Singapore before heading home to Blighty with never more than 48 hours in each of those cities. To say I spent any appreciable time in any of them would be an overstatement and bear no comparison to the time I spent in the air getting to and from them. Of them all I most admired Singapore and particularly the ex pat lifestyle I mostly met with; the only down side for me was the dengue fever, but I managed to avoid that.

I never did the calculation of how many Toyotas like ours one could have bought for the cost of the special edition RR, but I have a feeling it would have been more than several. Not my favorite car in there though, that was the orange Lambo, subtle it was not. As for the expat lifestyle it was a dangerous thing to get into, many people became a bit helpless because they were so used to asking the housekeeper/ rental agent/ whoever to deal with things for them it all became a terrible shock to return home. I didn’t have a housekeeper and always chatted to the workmen fixing things to learn the best way to bodge items together!

I too am no fan of giant tellies but that one does look a bit sad & lost there! Our one & only telly is I think 32", which I think is plenty. We've only got one that size as we inherited it

But then I'm not a football fan - at all. Bores me stiff in fact. Winds me up when there is an expectation that as a man you must be interested in football, just as much as it must wind up female football fans when the opposite happens.

Watching the live streams from ENO on a 60” telly with a good sound set up is definitely recommended though, not all home media consumption on big screens and speakers has to be sport related

I know I'm not a fan of either!

As a student I worked in a pub that only had 2 cassettes - one of which was ELO's greatest hits. All the regulars would groan every time Mr Blue Sky came on! I don't know about bringing then down, but Bruce can most definitely let them down, or whatever his name was!
