Glueing stone back together with lime putty?

Some genius decided to "re-point" parts of the front of our house with cement. Luckily they only did a fairly small area that is easy to reach from the tops of the bays, but there is still some damage to try to fix.

I will of course be trying to remove as much of it as necessary but we have a single course of slightly protruding smoothly dressed stone just above the bay and a couple of these have lost their fronts. These have come off as large single sheets which are luckily still intact.

I have a feeling that I saw something on here where someone had "glued" the fronts back on with neat lime putty, but I cant find anything with the search.

Any experience/advice? I will try to get a picture if it ever stops raining....

Try ringing Rose of Jericho and asking for advice... or SPAB helpline.

R of J does stone repair mortar which may be of use. SPAB ay be able to help with clagging any bits back on you have managed to retain recipes.

Thanks for that. The chap at Rose of Jericho was very helpful... He doesnt hold out much hope of the "neat" lime putty being strong enough and suggested stainless dowels to help it. Which I could do easily enough but there isnt much thickness on the detatched "face" to key to...

I think I may try to find some incredibly fine sand and make the finest lime mortar I can and see how that goes. Hopefully if it isnt up to it I can always brush it off and try something else, wheras if I try resin I reckon I only get one shot....
