I've always liked seeing old painted advertising signs on brickwork of buildings, and spotted this article on the BBC today:-

This one is very prominent as you go over the English Bridge in Shrewsbury, always catches me eye. I'm surprised that more modern businesses do not have them painted - once ubiquitous, now unusual, they really do stand out. You probably need planning permission though I guess.
